Landed 11/13/2009.
My first entry on this site. Followed a link from an old favorite of mine from journal space. A Rarity of Extremes is the title of her musings here on Blogger. Blogged regularly at JournalSpace for a few years starting in 2002.
Things went sideways personally in 2005 and lost the urge to blog. Ironically it wasn't because I had nothing to write about, in fact it was quite the opposite. Too much to get down, and so much of it stuff I didn't want to write about because of the places it would take me. A lot of darkness frankly, being the adult child of an accomplished alcoholic.
Reading Leigh's journal here reminded me of the community I once was a part of at JS. I went to JS to look up some old friends who I followed for those years. All gone, as Leigh says in her blog the owner "lost everything". So did I for now as I surface from the despair I have dealt with and conquered, I wanted to start sharing again with those favorites on JS, and see how they all were doing. They're gone, all my old favorites. Pork Fried Rice, Class Factotum, The Meanest Girl on Earth, Silent Whisper, Internet Person, and others who's blog titles I don't remember, but I remember the authors and the thoughts they shared with the world through JS. We are all poorer for our loss of their wackiness, wisdom, travails, and laughter typed on a web page for all the world to read. If any of you on JS are here now and remember me, as my handle is the same, I missed you all during my hiatus from blogging, and hope you drop by my space and say hello. During the darkest times, your journals and thoughts helped me more than you know.

Hey Blade, so nice to see you here! Yes, what happened at JS was quite horrid considering all the work some of us put into our blogs there. And to lose the "community" was terrible, and so sudden. You've reminded me of some of the friends I'd grown so used to and left behind, and it makes me sad all over again. I don't know if she's blogging, but I do know Internet Person in real life, and she's on Facebook, for one thing...so I can help you out with one of your favorites, at least.
ReplyDeleteI've never quite gotten back into blogging - not just since JS shut down so suddenly, but since 2005 when my life imploded because of a blog post I made. But once in a while I do try. I'm still here.
Glad you are here, too.
Leigh, thank you for visiting me. I do hope you find it in yourself to start your journal in the future. You were a huge favorite of mine,(no pun intended) and I didn't mean to make you sad all over again. The sudden JS turnover is a loss.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I up here in the Great White North have a toast when we get together to celebrate and occasion. "To absent friends" is our salutation. The next time I toast absent friends Leigh, I'll be thinking of our lost friends from JS.
Thanks for the kind words. I'll be keeping up with you as a follower of your blog :-)
